THE LUGGABLE LIVES!

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

do the bios and hardware support it ?

I've got a pair of PNY 240gb 3D nand drives in mine, they work with the raid and fully saturated the sata interface, about 280MB/s but it feels so so much better.

Linus's video also flashes the component out dongles when talking about the tuner, I dont have the tuner but the dongles and remote work great!

To fix sticky rubber dust it with baby powder and use a brush to rub it around. Be careful not to get it inside any switches that might be affected by dust getting inside, especially optical switches, or clean the switches afterward.  Why am I the only one that's figured this out?  No one I've ever mentioned it too has used it or reported it to the general public.

I think that's an msata slot at 19:10. I had one in my old Lenovo T530 that would have been for the WAN chip (I didn't get that included when I bought mine) but could also take an msata SSD (I added an extra 500GB to mine. I was disappointed, though not terribly surprised, that I couldn't use it in my new computer).

System Specs: Second-class potato, slightly mouldy

This video made me more proud of my purchase of a refurbished Dell Latitude D830 for ~$90, as a birthday gift.

The D830 that I own has a miserably slow 1.8Ghz C2D T7100, but luckily it can be upgraded to a faster one, especially after a BIOS update. The build quality is surprisingly good, in spite of its weight. It's really a gauntlet of a laptop, especially for a 14-inch one.

I'm lucky I got a 1680 x 1050 display (instead of the crappy 1280 x 800 one). It has minor imperfections and one dead pixel, but it's not gotta bother me, especially as I enjoy my time installing Arch on this beauty.

The laptop in question:

At the time this was available, it was very intriguing to my college student self.

... so I've had a saved copy of the cart page with fully-loaded M2010 saved for 16 years or so.

Topped out at $7812 or so:

I'm sure someone will correct me with some weird edge-case product, but practically speaking that requires modern thunderbolt which this won't have.

we might be able to connect an external GPU using other means, such as a PCMCI card, or a connection to one of the laptop's PCIe slots on it's motherboard, but we'd be limited to a PCIe gen 1 x1 lane at best.  Not  sure if a 2006 laptop had PCIe, so it might only be PCI.  Here is such a PCIe external GPU slot and adapters (without needing thunderbolt) I've used this on a Dell M6500 laptop  from 2010 by connecting to the laptop's PCMCI EXPRESS Card slot, but I was only able to get PCIe gen1 and just x1 lane performance while using an AMD RX460... http://www.bplus.com.tw/Adapter/PE4C V3.0.html

Still though it was way better than the internal GPU in benchmarks, but nowhere near benefit of cost for a modern external GPU and power supply only to be limited by old PCIe gen.  It's a fun experiment non the less to play around with.

Hello Guys,

currently i am refurbishing one of these magnificent Dell XPS m2010 Notebooks and could actually need some help from somebody who already owns one of these magnificent badboys...

The problem on my Device is that the opening and closing mechanism uses a black gear to transmit signals to the PCB.

This Black Gear on my device broke, altough i am still able to Glue the Gear back together.

But to be able to glue the back gear back together i need to know the exact position of the gear.

Can somebody send me a foto of there Dell XPS m2010 with the lifting mechanism still intact so i can fix mine ?

An example Picture of my lifting mechanism without the gears is attached to this Comment.

Regards

Andi

Is the remote natively able to work with the computer, or is there an external device required to use it? I ask because I have the remote, but I don't have the computer itself (yet).

Hello and Thank You Good Sir,

I Managed to fix up my Lifting mechanism Yesterday, thanks to you.

The one thing i dont get though ist what the Top Black weird looking gear part ist for...

I Manged to get the Lifting and Closing mechanism working just fine with out the Top Black half Wheel thingy and now i Wonder if Dell Built in this half Wheel so the Lifting and Closing mechanism can break easier... Other then that i cant find a use for the top part...

Thank you very much again.

Ps: I want to notify you that this Picture is the only one depicting this mechanism on the Whole Internet.

Yo, guys. Just registered here, found this thread accidentally during looking for pictures of HP HDX9000 and Dell M2010. I'm working on developing a 20.1" inch laptop and this is what you all want here. First of all, I got attracted by the green Voodoo Envy HW:201 posted by @gameboy3800. You've got a nice thing bro. But I'm very curious to know the screen resolution to figure out if there are any other 20.1" 1920x1200 screens out on the market other than CMO N201J4-L01. What's the screen resolution of that green monster and the LCD's model name?

I did some mods for Dell M6400 and HDX9000. You can check some of them out here https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/hp-hdx9000-mods/91236?u=remdale

I also posted some stuff on the already dead notebookreview forum.

I was going to mix the designs of HDX9000 and M2010 as well as add something from other old laptops like a digital clock screen and other stuff. I want to know the details of how your perfect laptop looks like. Big corporations abandoned big screens, so I wanna pick this wave up and make us satisfied.

A 20.1" 4K screen is a disaster to me. The desktop screen and everything in the browser are so tiny. You're gonna destroy your eyesight if you want to use that screen because you'd need to sit pretty much close to the screen if trying to recognize tiny characters unlike 1920x1200 which can be very good observed while keeping your hands straight during typing. I own a 20.1" tablet Panasonic Toughpad FZ-Y1 (almost same as UT-MA6 and UT-MB5), so I know what I'm talking about. I bought this tablet to figure out the info about its screen, but 15:9 ratio is not what I want to be looking at. Even though the screen is pretty thin.

On the other hand, I have just ordered IBM T221, probably the only 22" 4K 16:10 monitor ever produced. It's coming from Japan, just wanted to look at the picture quality and find out if we could use it in our new laptop.

By the way, my 1920x1200 screen is overclocked to 108Hz, the mouse cursor is moving smoothly. Higher refresh rates result in artifacts because of the LCD controller overheating.

I met a designer guy who seems to be wanting to join me up, so let's start. I'd probably need to create a new thread for this I guess.

Speaking of Dell M2010, I was thinking on swapping the motherboard from another laptop after redesigning the whole PCB.

Hello Guys,

currently i am refurbishing one of these magnificent Dell XPS m2010 Notebooks and could actually need some help from somebody who already owns one of these magnificent badboys...

Regards

Andi

Heyyy I actually own one of these enormous beasts too!

Exept.......mines in REALLY bad condition, the hinges are both snapped, she won't POST and now the DVD ejector gear like yours has also..... crumbled.

I suspect the drop damage has a part to play lol.

I'm struggling to see exactly what the gear is for (I think it's a sensor thing) but if possible.

Could you get some good photos of your gear? I hope I can fabricate a new one and resin print it (not just for me but for everyone who needs one). Of Course if this risks damaging yours please don't try and remove it. Mines broken, I don't want to ruin yours also.
