Monitor which won't kill my eyes after coming back from Mac

tl;dr: My ex-wife took all my money so I had to sell my Apple kit. What replacement monitor should I be getting for photography and light gaming which doesn't break the bank or my eyes? Pref 27" IPS. But have reservations on 4k display scaling. Is 1440p ok?

So longer version. I had a 5K Studio Display and M1 MacBook Pro before which I had to dispose of to break even after a messy divorce. I was spoiled rotten by the two best displays on the market. Now I don't have either. So I'm poor and I'm running a bankrupt stock Lenovo i5-12400 corp desktop with Windows 11 and a crap Iiyama 22" VA panel at 1080p which is horrible and hurts my eyes after a couple of hours. I also have a 27" 4k Iiyama which has a damaged polarizer (damn removals guys). I've had that monitor a few years now and used it on Mac and PC but I never liked it. It has to be run at 150% scaling on both platforms to be usable size-wise and that results in text sharpness issues and blurring even after arguing with Cleartype settings. I figure it might be worth going back to 1440p. I'll be using it for photography (Affinity Photo) and light gaming when I eventually get to upgrade the computer side of things.

If anyone has some input on any suggestions and sweet spots of size / resolution combos I would appreciate it.

You could always get a 2.5k apple cinema display used on ebay. It's 27" and goes pretty cheap.

Are you in a well-lit room or do you look at your screen in dim surroundings?

IFAIK 4K scaling is actually handled better on Windows than Mac (Mac really wants 5K) but if it were me and I was on a budget I'd probably target something 1440p and reasonably colour accurate.

Well lit surroundings. The studio display used to annoy me because it was glossy actually.

Sounds sensible. Thanks for the reply.

Gof for a 27" or 32" 4K monitor. They have high enough ppi so the picture looks as crisp as a typical mac display.

Nothing is ever black and white. Everything is on a scale and context always matters.

Ok I bought a ViewSonic VP2768a. Was in budget and has 110% sRGB at 1440p. Fingers crossed it turns up without any crap pixels!
