Can you run a DDR3 1600Mhz at 800Mhz?

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Yup, running something at a lower speed isn't an issue. It's when you want to run it above its advertised specifications that it becomes an issue. The BIOS is what determines the speed the memory runs at, so simply installing into the slot and turning on the laptop should be all that's needed.

Soo I'm trying to bring back to life my aunt laptop, it's an HP 420, with a pentium dual core t4500 and a intel gl40 chipset so for what I could find it only supports up to 4GB of ddr3 ram at 800Mhz, it came with 1 2GB stick but i'm having trouble finding a match But I found a 4GB ddr3l 1600Mhz stick, Could replace the 2GB with the 4GB one? could that one just run at half speed and be fine?

Further digging let me to finding out that the 2GB stick it currently has is actually 1333Mhz but it does run at 800Mhz soo that's something I guess

That CPU uses DDR3 memory.

In my defense, the chipset OP listed shows in ARK as supporting DDR2.

That said, @RaulBataka, where did you get that it's running at 800MHz? That stick is a 1333MHz stick, and 800MHz would have been extremely slow for DDR3.
