Frame drops and stuttering during most games.

 Share

Specs:

Ryzen 7 3700X

RTX 3070

32GB DDR4 3200MHZ RAM

650W PSU

Issue: During gameplay of most of my games, the game stutters and drops to 1FPS. The game then suddenly speeds up and then slows down to return to the normal framerate. This happens every 5 minutes or so. Using a hardware monitor, It says that the GPU usage drops to 0% during these frame drops. I have tried installing new drivers, turning off shadowplay and game mode, although none of these have worked. Help would be much appreciated

Which motherboard? Which cooler? What have you used to monitor the temperatures in idle and under load? Are the games on an SSD? What does Hard Disk Sentinel say about the drives health?

overclocking too, perhaps renew thermal paste or check background apps hogging stuff, maybe malware too, and what about reinstalling latest driver with DDU

Dont forget to mark as solution if your question is answered

Note: My advice is amateur help/beginner troubleshooting, someone else can probably troubleshoot way better than me.

I am using a Biostar B550MH Motherboard and the stock AMD Wraith cooler. I have not monitored the temperatures. The games I have tested were on two different SSDs, NVMe and SATA and they both suffered from the same problem. Hard Disk Sentinel says the drives are in perfect condition.

Is the board V6.0 or V6.1? https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=987

The latest BIOS on the board (from November 2022)?

Latest AMD chipset drivers downloaded from AMD?

Use HWInfo64 or HWMonitor to monitor temperatures.
