Converting an old laptop into a drawing tablet - Need help badly

crakddx

I have an old surface laptop 3 that I no longer use, and I wanted to repurpose the good touchscreen to make a drawing tablet for myself. How in the world do I accomplish this? How do I turn my touchscreen laptop into a touchscreen external monitor? Basically all I want to do is chop off the keyboard and stuff.

I also have a dead surface book I can use, with the detachable screen. The screen works fine on it, just nothing will boot up. Would it be easier to convert the book?

Basically the same for both, you'd have to find a controller board that is able to drive the display and the proper cables/connectors/power supply, and find the connections for the touchscreen controller and hope it's USB/wire it out.

None of it is "plug and play", you'll have to open the machine, find the part no of the LCD panel, search for doc on it, look for display controller boards that should be compatible on the Chinese electronics outlets etc.

Touchscreen may or may not be possible to make work but again can't really know without taking the particular machine apart, see what touchscreen chip it's using and how it's connected...
