RGB fans and older motherboards…

Would there be any issues running RGB fans on older motherboards?

I have a rig aside with a Z170 (that very likely doesn’t support RGB fans) that really needs a pair of case fans at the front.

Would RGB fans run just fine even if the motherboard doesn’t support RGB? I assume that the RGB bit just wouldn’t receive power?

I just need to know before I commit to spending money on an unknown.
I’m looking at getting 140mm Corsair fans to match the exhaust but the only options I can actually find are RGB.

Wanted to match fans, didn’t need more fitted for exhaust like I stupidly wrote.

It should power up no problem as long as the connectors arent proprietary, and just normal pwm+rgb header. Although, you could get some nice 140mm non rgb, non corsair fans for quite cheap.

Please mark as solved if I answered your question.

For $29.99 at Corsair model AF140 ELITE is non-RGB.

None of the PC part suppliers near me have any non-RGB Corsair fans as far as I’ve seen. I’ll keep looking for stock regardless

Sweet, sounds like it’ll work. I’m definitely keen on keeping the build consistent, though. It’s mostly MSI and Corsair and looks nice that way. MSI Z170, 1060 6GB, 650W PSU; Corsair case, RAM, case fans, etc… only thing that sticks out is the be quiet! cooler lol

If local availability is a problem, they can be ordered directly from Corsair.
