Maximum Ram Capacity on a Lenovo Laptop

Hey guys,

I have a Lenovo Y540 17IRH, 81Q4 laptop (Baseboard model - LNVNB161216). At this time I have 8gb of ram and am planning on upgrading to 32gb.

My question is, what is the maximum capacity this specific laptop can support?

I looked in the laptops user guide but Lenovo didn't specify it, as well as at some online stores where you can buy this laptop they said that maximum capacity is 32gb but since that is not an official source I don't know if I should believe that.

Hopefully someone has tried this upgrade in the past.

Thank you for your responses in advance.

4GB is already soldered to the motherboard, since you have 8gb total, that means you have another 4gb preinstalled.

you can't get to 32gb precisely. what you can do is add 16gb or 32gb single stick module, so you have 20gb or 36gb.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Are you sure?

According to crucial the machine has two memory slots and supports up to 32 GB.

I would use task manager and CPU-Z to check how many sockets it has and what's pre-installed.

according to the video above witch has the same motherboard LNVNB161216.

I don't know if some motherboard have 2 slot instead of 1, usually these budget laptop have some soldered.

To be sure just open the back cover, from the video above looks like it's a simple process.

True, they often do. Seems there's conflicting information when you search for the motherboard compared to the notebook model. I've even found sites claiming it supports 32 GB per socket 🤷‍♂️

I agree, OP should definitely investigate their machine in more detail before purchasing anything.

Thanks for your answers.

I have opened the laptop a few times and it does have two sticks inside. As well as the motherboard is completely different than in the video that @SupaKomputa sent. I presume that if it has two ram slots it will "probably" support 32gb.
Decide to share the link where I saw mentioned that the maximum capacity is 32gb -> https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-Legion-Y540-17IRH-81Q4-Intel-Core-i7-9750H-2-6-GHz-Win-10-Home-64-bit-GF-GTX-1660-Ti-16-GB-RAM-1-TB-SSD-17-3-IPS-1920-x-1080-Full-HD-144-Hz-Wi/634859357
