hdd io failure

i was using sea tools to wipe a hdd and it froze up had to hard reset the pc and the hdd is only giving me io errors trying a low level format in hopes it works does anyone have any advice.

thats something i saw happen occasionally when wiping old drives for refurbishing.

sometimes the sustained load of a propper wipe is enough to make an on-edge drive kick the bucket.

 

i've also seen one or two cases of the sata cable kicking the bucket mid-wipe. once you see enough drives go by, you start seeing some REALLY unlucky stuff.

 

also.. having that said.. wtf is a "HDD low level format tool", that also has a checkbox for performing a 'quick wipe' that isnt actually a wipe.
