trying to make sense of the teir list and having trouble

i currently have on order a ryzen 5 3600 cpu it was going to replace a ryzen 5 3400G

 

however the motherboard the 3400G is attached to appears to have issues when i try to add a seperate graphics card or upgrade windows 10 past version 2004...

 

  the ryzen5 3400G build is as follows:

- CPU Ryzen 5 3400G

- Motherboard Asus Prime B450 m-k

- ram 16gig @2666mhz ( ddr4 kingston 8gig x 2  )

- adata 800 SSD 500gig ( internal )

- seagate green 2TB ( internal )

- western digital 4TB USB

- psu 550watt ( unsure )

- archer T4 wifi card

 

so i am wondering what

- motherboard  with wifi built-in ( full atx size prefered )

- 16gig ram ( preferably 3200mhz )

- psu

i should put together for the ryzen 5 3600 cpu?

am on a tight budget though

 

preferences would be

- still able to install windows 7 (not essential but preferered )

- add an amd  RX570 8gig graphics card ( i already have this )

- add crucial P1 nvme 500gig drive ( i already have this )

that together with your specs in your signature is *very* confusing .

 

however,  i think you shouldn't buy new hardware for the 3600 specifically.  just make sure you have the right BIOS then if it boots with new cpu install also chipset drivers. 

 

And *then* you can try updating windows normally. 

 

if that's still not working its probably an issue with your windows and you need a fresh install.

if you mean the AM3+ yeah it died .... currently sharing my sons computer which is the the ryzen 5 3400G build ...

 

but there are various games that keep choking on the ryzen 5 3400G ...... it may just be a bad / damaged motherboard....

windows 10 wont install on it with gpt / uefi mode, has to be installed using mbr and updates have to be disabled otherwise it goes into a boot-loop with graphics issues...

 

hence the request for a new motherboard and ram combo to go with the 3600

hmm i see... i cant really give you recommendation for this specific case because i think it's unlikely a motherboard issue (if anything a bios issue yeah) and i don't know the answer for that, but im sure there are many people with 450 boards or similar that can update no issue and give you recommendations therfore.

 

 

but you know, i have to say,  there is an  error in your logic , you get a new cpu so you don't actually *know* if there will be issues,  you just think there will be (which is possible but unlikely)  you know. why not just try it out?

 

edit: actually,  b450 steel legend. people swear on this board and recommend it all the time (when r5 3600 was hip) so yeah that.

 

i still wouldn't do it without trying my old mobo with new cpu and BIOS, but its your money, and yes steel legend is it then i guess!

well the

- bios has been updated to the latest non beta ( the motherboard is supposed to be windows 11 ready )

-every time trying to update the chipset drivers for the cpu AND the motherboard before updating windows it crashes on windows updates

- every time trying to update windows before updating the chipset and motherboard drivers it goes into boot loop

- every time trying to update windows and not the chipset or motherboard drivers it goes into boot loop

- every time attempting windows updates locks and freezes the wifi adapter regardless of whether it is usb or pci version

- adding a 4gig gpu card ( doesnt have powerport attached ie uses only power from pci slot ) causes acpi errors ( didnt want to risk the 8 gig card which does require an extra power port plug )

given the above you really think i should risk putting the ryzen 5 3600 on that motherboard?

 

is the b550 steel legend more or less the same as the b450 version?

yeah i get it there's an issue i was just saying id try a fresh install... its a common windows thing once the install is bugged updating will be hard to impossible (also updating to a new version ie 11 isn't really recommended) 

Anyway that's why i suggested  the b450 steel legend.

more or less, but the 450 is made for the 3000 cpu series,  the 550 is not, meaning there will likely be less issues on a b450 board.

so after talking to some other people, about the issues with the asus motherboard and looking for

- the best bang for buck

- stock availability

- plus my prefered requirements

 

i have gone and ordered

- 2 x Gigabyte B450 DS3H V2 motherboard $258

- 2 x 8gig Corsair vengeance 3600mhz 16gig $89

- 2 x 8gig Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz 16gig $87

- 1 x Cool Master MWE Gold V2 550watt psu $135

Total = $569

+ 3600 cpu already bought for$225

total = $794

 

this gives me 2 computers instead of 1 and i will be able to multi-play with my son and daughter again....

 

anyone else's thoughts
