System shuts down in BIOS after a few seconds or minutes

jostn

Hi! I am putting together my new computer, but I am running into some issues.

First off, the system specs:

  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE B650 Gaming X AX
  • CPU: AMD 7600x
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 6400 (DDR5)
  • PSU: Corsair RM850x
  • COOLER: Noctua DH 15
  • CASE: Corsair 4000D Airflow

The problem: After I turn on the computer, I get into BIOS. The fans turn on, and the BIOS shows that temperatures are fine (sub 40C/100F). All connected accessories and drives are visible in bios (all fans, GPU, RAM, M.2 drive). After 5 seconds to 2 minutes the system/screen shuts down. The CPU LED on the motherboard status lights up. The CPU fan is still running but the system is otherwise unresponsive.

What I have tried:

  • Reconnecting cables
  • Removing all unnecessary cables and accessories (GPU, header usb/audio, all system fans except CPU). I think that this has increased the time until shutdown, but I am not 100% sure. The problem still remains though.
  • Using only 1 RAM stick, in different slots
  • Reapplying thermal paste/cooler
  • Using the 2x2 power cable in addition to the 2x4 power cable to the CPU
  • Cleared CMOS

What I have not tried yet (that I can think of):

  • Removed and re-installed CPU
  • Removed M2 drive (but I am not booting from it or interacting with it).

I think its starting to look rather grim, and I do not know which component is failing on me. Grateful for any help or tips on what to do next 🙂
