Can I upgrade the CPU in my laptop?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05 with Ryzen 5 4600H, GTX 1650 and 16GB memory, can I upgrade the CPU? Core temp says I'm on the FP6 socket

6C 12T on 4Ghz is pretty good, why do you need better CPU?

No. These cpus are non upgradable.

The electronic components on the motherboard will be dead long before that CPU is an issue, I can guarantee you that 😆

The general rule is "no." Laptop CPUs are typically soldered on to the mainboard to save space. And importantly, laptops are often designed around the thermals of the components inside. There's no guarantee that, say, a future Ryzen mobile CPU will consume as much power and generate as much heat as the 4600H you have now.

There are vendors whose laptops are basically very compact desktops with socketed CPUs, but those are typically thick, heavy machines meant as workstations (or semi-portable gaming rigs) that usually remain plugged in. If you value portability, you'll generally have to accept that the CPU and GPU will remain the same for the life of the computer.

Very few if any laptops have a upgradable CPU it was a thing in the early 2000s.  But it was a different size compared to standard desktop cpus

It wasn't THAT long ago. Most Intel Core CPUs up to Haswell (2014) were socketed (thus, upgradable).

Intel pentium M chips discontinued in 2009 and not all pentium m chips were in socket

And those were specialized to have lower TDP and a small substrate

It's still a thing now. There're still Clevo/Sager laptops selling with recent gen socketed CPUs. They tend to lag a bit behind the release of the desktop side, since usually the OEMs selling these are more botique sellers that relay on a generic design by Clevo/Sager, rather than Dell/Lenovo etc. but they still exist.

They're also huge and basically desktop sized, but you can find them.
