B650 + 7950X now or 3D later ?

 Share

Hey guys, i am keeping eye on zen 4 prices and here in europe after all taxes its kinda tempting. 7950X is 622eur and 7600x 259e. Got rid of my zen 3 5800x in the summer in hopes to upgrade to zen 4, however its still way too expensive platform. I love to have upgrade path, 13th is great however it can't provide anything new later if i wanted. ZEN 4 combo would be pricey, but at least AMD promised 3years support for platform. Also i don't think 7800x3D will cost less than 480eur, or 7950x3D will cost less than 900eur, because knowing AMD if their cpu is fastest they will price it accordingly. So maybe pulling trigger on either 7600x and 7950x now would make sense ? 14th is nowhere near to be on horizon either.

I'd go the cheapest 7600X now and later upgrade to a higher tier 3D CPU. You would always lose less money on a lower tier CPU when selling it than on a higher tier one. Let's say in 3-4 months prices are the same. Lowering the 7600 by just €30 will get it off your hands quite easily, while you'll have to lose at lest €100 from the 7950X to get rid of it. Smaller initial investment, smaller loss... win/win situation when you plant to change soon.
