New Pc complete crash in game (please help ;( )

Hello I just built a new pc. Everything seems to be running well except when I am playing COD Modern Warfare 2. After around 45 min of playing the pc will sometimes crash leaving the monitor displaying the last frame. My build is a 3080 12gb msi, 13700k, z690 ultra aorus, ek waterblock cpu cooler 240mm, gskill ddr5 5200mhz running at 4800mhz, 850w corsair psu. The pc is really new so I dont know if it is the game that is causing the issues or my pc. Do any of you have any experience with this or know what may be going on?

The PC is crashing more frequently. I might have it fully crash 3 - 4 times in a two hour gaming session. Due to the screen just freezing and the lack of errors, I am wondering if it is a software issue. Do you think that wiping the drive and doing an entirely new install of windows and my apps will fix the issue?

Could be a driver issue, check Nvidia forums to see if anything seems similar. Possible it is a heat issue, have you tried running any benchmarking apps on a loop to see what happens?

Eliminate as many 3rd party apps as possible from running to see if maybe there is a problem there. Are you using individual or pigtail cables with the GPU?

HWInfo64 & MSI Afterburner can be used to monitor voltages and temps during use and testing, Unigene Heaven and Superposition can be used to benchmark and stress the GPU and VRAM, Cinebench can be used to test overall system performance and stability, Prime95 can be used to stress test the CPU, Memtest86 can test the system RAM, all have free versions.

Suggest after checking some forums (game and drivers) you test one aspect of your system at a time to try to pinpoint the cause.

I was having this issue as well on my Alder Lake build, except my problem was with Rocket League of all games. I was able to play 6 straight hours of Assassin's Creed Origins but RL would freeze up mid-gameplay. Unfortunately I have no direct solution. Between driver and game updates, the issues were resolved. This might be a game of patience.

Yeah GPU drivers are up to date. I just downloaded HWinfo64 but havent played with live data so dont know what my temps are. I have run benchmarks for both cpu and gpu. The gpu always stays cool but the cpu under max load for 10 minutes can spike to temperatures over 90 degrees. I dont know if this is happening in game so I will have to test. I am planning on undervolting a little to get my temps down a bit. Also It could just be Modernwarfare 2 being buggy but I felt like I was dropping frames at times so I might have to do more testing for that also.

Yeah I thought that it may be due to new hardware and new game having issues.

13th gen intel CPUs are just this hot, everything is fine with the temp. To me it sounds just like a software problem aka CoD being CoD, but you and try and check the usual suspects like PCIe link state, GPU scheduling and so on. Make sure all are at max power / max performance.

90C spikes at stock and with water cooling is odd. But could be auto-OC.

 

As for your issue, if its just one game, then it's 100% drivers. But newest isn't always the best. You should try with older or beta drivers. Also high recommendation to turn off any automatic driver updates. They are as likely to break things as they are to fix things.

Well start stress testing your system. CPU stress test, then GPU... at some point something will cough up the magic hairball. Are all components brand new or is the GPU "refurbished" as the miners now like to advertise them?

All of the components are brand new. I have stress tested them and have not been able to find the problem.
