RTX 3060 XC fan rattle: What can I do?

mapegl

When my fans ramp up, it will rattle. And as the PC sits on my desk right next to me, it is kinda annoying.

Apparently it is no warranty reason and I can't find viable solutions.

Aren't there any third party coolers that fit? I used to have an arctic cooler on my 7950, but that is not supposed to fit.

A regular fan or two would be great, but the card uses some weird plugs for the fans and I would really, really want to control the fan speed with the GPU itself.

Any helpful ideas? I know I can set a fan curve, but I would like something more permanent.

I am no stranger to modding something a bit as you can see in my old build log in my signature.

What exactly are the wierd plugs on the GPU like?
Maybe its just a compact plug for both fans or just a different size?
I had a similar problem with an older GPU once and I just soldered a desktop fan to the original connector.
Worked great.

Yeah that's my problem. I would have to do that and I would like to keep the cooler the way it is for possible warranty claims.

Apparently the connectors are reversed. I can't find the forum post I found, but somebody already figured out that they changed that for some reason. There are those connectors that just plug into a GPU, but I could cut those and solder them to a regular fan.

How long is the warranty on this card?

One alternative could be liquid cooling. there is likely a waterblock for it and it would keep the stock cooler in stock condition.

if the warranty is not an option, the quickest fix is turning the fan off and ziptieing a fan onto it, other than that, replacement fans can be found, usually more expensive than i'd like though.

There are some, but not be the usual offenders. Alphacool doesn't make a single one.

Byski or whatever their name is have one and I have no experience with water-cooling.

Also, instead of that I could just switch or even upgrade for the same or even less money.

It did occur to me and thank you for the idea, but it's not worth it.

That could work, but still requires external fan control. Not ideal, but thank you for the suggestion.

Well I guess there are no secret options I didn't know about. To be honest, all the mods are probably equal to just biting the bullet and losing money on a switch...

If you have something like a commander pro in your system, you could plug the fan into this and use the GPU temperature as the temperature source.

Getting one just for that reason, would be really expensive, though

I have sold the 3060 for 330 and for a new 6700 for 400.
I don't care about any of the feature I lost that way and I am gaining performance, so that's fine.
