PCIe 4.0 GPU with PCIe 3.0 motherboard

Hey! 

I currently have a gtx 1060 3GB and i am finally going to upgrade. 

My motherboard is a gen 3.0 PCIe.

I am wondering how much performance loss i will have if i put a RTX 3070 in my motherboard compared to a PCIe 4.0 motherboard.

For gaming you'll not notice the difference. I'm using a 3070 right now with a 7920X. The CPU is more noticeable of an impact.

No that won't be a bottle neck. I am not seeing any limitation running my 3090 at 3 on a riser vs 4 on the motherboard directly.

Even with PCIE-4.0x8 cards like the 6650 XT it's fine to run them on a PCIE-3.0 board, where they'd run at PCIE-3.0x8 = PCIE-4.0x4 bandwidth. Where you run into problems is with PCIE-4.0x4 cards like the RX 6500 XT. That thing runs like crap on PCIE-3.0 boards. But the 3070 is a PCIE-4.0x16 gpu which will run at PCIE-3.0x16 = PCIE-4.0x8 bandwidth, which is still plenty for anything a 3070 can run.
