2700x in 2022

 Share

Hi lads,

Recently a friend of mine upgraded his CPU and left me with his 2700x. Its been a long time since I've looked into this chip and don't remember a whole lot about what it went well with. What kind of GPU could I pair with it? Currently I'm on a 1440p 144hz monitor.

Whats your budget and what games do you use it for?

For 1440p 144hz you just want your gpu as fast as possible, I would recommend a 3070/3070 ti or better. 2700x should be able to do above 100fps in most games, you can try turning off smt as it increases single core performance making it better for gaming, it also decreases the temperature allowing for higher boost speeds or overclocks. If you stream or anything though leave it on, but 8c8t should be perfect if you're only gaming.

I'd be expecting 60-90 fps in most games with that cpu, so something like RX 6700 XT / RX 6800 / RX 6800 XT would be good for hitting those kind of framerates at 1440p. Note raytracing will put more of a load on your cpu for example in games like Cyberpunk or Spiderman, so one more reason to not give much of a shit about RT.
