Unraid Drives Unmountable

Oli1549

Hi,

I put two old, unused drives back in my server out of curiosity to see if they hold data, and they are unmountable in unassigned drives. is there anything i can do to view contents before risking loosing potential data on these drives?

Thanks.

Do you have enough drives available on your UnRAID license?

I believe to mount disks you also need to stop the array even if they arent part of the array.

Other than that try installing Unassigned Devices from the Community Apps store and see if you can mount them then.

Yes I have a license, and that is through unassigned devices, still won’t let me mount them

Correct me if I'm wrong. But they should be readable via ubuntu directly. So you have a machine running Ubuntu you could plug them into or boot with a Linux live USB? That should tell you without worrying about the intricacies of unraid.

To be fair, I don't have any VM's but ill try this as it would be handy if it works.

It doesn't need to be a vm but really any desktop you have access to. If you boot for an ubuntu usb you can use the try option without installing it just to check if there is data there and without making changes to your desktop.

I made a Ubuntu VM for this purpose as its handy. How exactly would I make drives that are not mounted in unraid visible to a VM?

I'm Clueless with VM's, never used them before. but thanks for your help!
