New PC does not detect old SSD as bootable

YonathanZ

Hi,

I have the SSD of an older PC that I'd like to clone to a new NVME drive. It's not possible to attach the NVME drive to the old computer so I had to connect the old SSD to the new PC.

When I start the new PC, the BIOS does not recognize the SSD as a boot option. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks.

What is the old SSD? SATA? mSATA?

Can you give us more information about the two PCs, like motherboard model?

Does your new motherboard disable SATA ports when there's an M.2 SSD present?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Your SSD is probably formatted as MBR, as the system that had the SSD is over 12 years old and doesn't support UEFI for GPT format support, or it was set incorrectly to emulate legacy BIOS.

UEFI can only boot with drives formatted as GPT

BIOS can only boot with drives formatted as MBR
