Can someone teach AMD some maths?

Interestingly when looking at Buy AMD on their own site, they list components and then bundles.  Oddly, the bundles are MORE expensive than the sum of the components, but then the discount reduces it to below so it works out?

For instance:

7950X - $699

6950XT - $999

Bought separate - $1698

Bundle - $1798 ???

 

7700X - $399

6750XT - $449

Bought separate - $848

Bundled - $948 ???

 

Just thought it interesting as I was looking at the 7900X to pair with the 6900XT and seeing if AMD had any specials going on.

It's a bait/switch tactic. Some people won't do the simple investigation into that and just see the "you save this" by bundling. So if they mark it up 50 or 75$ and the flag it as a discount bundle savings as 100$ many will look at it as a great deal.

reminds me of when some stores have sales, they raise the price when putting it on sale to try and trick people into believing they are getting a better deal then they are. I'm sure it works on some people

Maybe if you messaged them they'd reduce the entire bundle by $200, from the price of the two separate parts.

I'd email them and ask for a further discount pointing out their error Bug fees!

More likely the bundles were created with fixed pricing that gradually became less favorable as market conditions changed and standalone prices for these products dropped.

I'd agree with that if it weren't for the fact that the ryzen 7000 lineup is way too new for that gradual depreciation to happen.

I might have agreed if it was just one bundle that was off, or if it was only bundles with certain GPU/CPU that was off, but every single bundle no matter the GPU or CPU is exactly $100 more than it should be. Even the 6750XT + 7700X bundle is $100 more than it should be, the 7700X just released so it's unlikely that price changed and it's unlikely AMD dropped the 6750XT price by $100.

 

Edit: Welp, looks like AMD did actually drop the price of their GPUs by $100. AMD's 6950XT MSRP was $1099 at launch and the 6750XT was $549. Now $999 and $449 respectively. AMD should still update their bundle pricing as it's very misleading advertising $200 discount when it's really only $100. The 7000 series bundles would have just been added to the page in the last week or two so the GPU price drop must be fairly recent.

 

Despite the misleading bundle price and discount all of the bundle deals work out to be cheaper once you factor in the additional advertised discount applied at checkout, with the exception of the 6750XT + 7700X bundle which works out the same price as buying separately.

Ad. Discount = -$200

Final Price = $1598

The one I want, 7900X + 6900XT is actually cheaper in other stores.  If AMD matched current pricing... that would rock, even if they used $699 for the 6900XT.  That would beat the Microcenter deal.

The bundle on the AMD store includes the 6950XT, not the 6900XT. I can't see any CPU + GPU bundles on microcenter, but the cheapest 6950XT from microcenter is $920, so the AMD bundle still works out $20 cheaper.

The cheapest 6900XT on microcenter is the MSI Gaming X at $630, compared to $799 for the AMD 6900 XT. Microcenter doesn't appear to stock the reference AMD cards and AMD doesn't stock the board partner cards, so neither would match prices for products they don't stock.

Right, so if AMD would adjust their MSRP for the 6900XT to nearer market pricing... that would be nice.  But it is what it is.  I still need to figure out if I am going AM4 or AM5, not impressed with DDR5 pricing/performance or knowing that x3D versions of the 7900x (for example) will be out next year per rumor.

 

I need to just shit or get off the pot and stop waiting to see what's next.  Decisions are not my strong suit.
