Desmume emulator vs Citra emulator

So I've gotten the itch to play some older Pokemon games again, and I had previously played the DS ones on the Desmume emulator. But since then, a lot of improvements have been made to Citra I hear. So for anyone who may know, does Citra offer a better experience than Desmume?
