Normally I underclock slightly as it uses less power and same or close to same speed. BUT if things get tight then I sometimes get stupid and experiment with overclocking but normally Bites back...

I'd love to try it out and join in on F@h but don't think my parents would be too happy if I were to leave my rig on during the day. 

 

Plus, I doubt my hardware would be any good considering nvidia GPUs seem to be favored here.

Hey Spec, a little correction : Frontier does 1.1 exaFLOPS (1102 PFLOPS), not 1.1PFLOPS. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOP500 ) F@h did briefly breach the exascale mark during the COVID boom in people signing up, and was the first computing system to do so, but we aren't at much more than 150-200PFLOPS now.

You have done one, click the little 'i' on your event badge to find out

Also changed my setup location from an upstairs room to the basement, so I now need to produce heat instead of having too much of it. That's on top of the changes in temperature recently. Hehehe

All hardware that is capable is good.  AMD cards work fine, just aren't the bang for the folding buck all the time.  Even CPU only works fine, though not optimal, which is what I always do.

I have donated a grand total of roughly 900 points today, probably 3K in 2 days, but if it's that slow, I don't think I'll get a badge. I wish someone worked on folding using the neural engine (AI/compute acceleration built into the M1, a vestigial part from photo processing on iPhones) or even just the GPU, I image that would be roughly 4-5 times faster.

Now that mining is dead, I hope the total compute on offer goes up significantly.

Any increase in Shader/Graphics clock will show a corresponding improvement in yield but finding stability is tricky and a overclock can work for weeks before that one task comes along that causes a failure.

 

Personally I would NOT go above +50 MHz depending on the card. The one exception is my EVGA 1070ti SC Gaming which seems to boost only to the mid 1800s and will run with a +150 with no issues. These things take a long time to figure out and one failed WU due to an overclock 80-90% into a task will negate any other gains from the overclock when it was stable.

 

Unlike gaming where the application recovers usually from an error F@H just throws an error and moves on to the next task.

Agreed.  While your computer and video card may be stable at higher OCs while gaming and such, the F@H client is much more finicky. I undervolt the GPU to 80%, underclock the VRAM speed by something like 500MHz, and do a modest 50-100MHz OC on the GPU. Stable forever, a good drop in power draw, and I still average somewhere around +200-400k on average over other GTX 1660S depending on the WUs.

My baseboards are ~150-200Wh per linear foot, and given the weather here being chilly: the total linear feet of the baseboards comes out slightly more than running ~250ish watts of CPU+GPU for 24/7 operation.

 

F@H says that my ppd is estimated at ~71.5k, am very happy.
