I bought a new monitor and was trying it out but it only gives me up to 4K 120 hz. The monitor is advertised to be able to go up to 4K 144hz. Any ideas? the only thing i can think is that the 1080ti doesnt support 4K 144hz.

Also every other Resolution works at 144hz.

No it does not, 4k 120hz only due to it supporting Display port 1.4a

There was also a display port firmware update for the 1080ti that was semi offical

Hi, Welcome!

Yes Gtx 1080ti can run most games at max out or high settings at 144 hz, depending on the game. Yes, Even this mighty card can’t max out all games and give you 144 hz.

Also, for 144 hz the card alone will not do. You will need a very fast cpu to get those 144 hz.

With a 1080ti you can't get 144hz at 4k without chroma subsampling. Aka you can't do 4k 144hz with 8bit color. I have a 4k 144hz monitor and used the 1080ti with it so I would know.

Depends on the monitor model.  my 4k 144hz monitor was one of the earliest versions and doesn't support any of the connection standards that allow 4k 144hz with full 8 bit color. So I would make sure that the monitor you have supports the connection standard you want to use to get 4k 144hz.

it's likely gonna be through hdmi 2.1 or dp 1.4 dsc, i think hdr 444 is capped to 120hz, could be wrong on that one.
