Which is the Best PSU?

KT7000
Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

The Corsair AX1600i is the best. The Seasonic TX-1600 performs well also, but not quite as good as the AX1600i. The EVGA and Superflower are tied in 3rd place. That's also reflected in their price, with the AX1600i being the most expensive and the EVGA T2 the cheapest. They're all good power supplies so you can't go wrong with any of them. Because of the price differences it comes down to if you want the best of the best no matter the cost (AX1600i) or if you just need something that can provide a huge amount of power (EVGA T2).

Keep in mind the EVGA/Super Flower are very loud under load, reaching up to 50dBa under full load. The TX-1600 and AX1600i are both much better on noise, especially considering the high power output they sustain. It's also worth noting that the Corsair AX1600i allows you to control the fan speed and set custom fan curve with iCue link. The Seasonic TX-1600 (which is the latest released) review at Tom's Hardware shows noise comparison between the units. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/seasonic-prime-tx-1600-power-supply-review/5

You can also check Cybenetics for more detailed noise testing, but both the AX1600i and TX-1600 are rated A for noise and the EVGA T2 is rated Standard++. Super Flower Leadex isn't tested.

Another thing to consider is the physical dimensions of each of the units and whether they are compatible with the case you are planning on using. They're all very large power supplies, if you're using a smaller case you may have issues. The AX1600i is 200mm long, the Seasonic TX-1600 is 210mm long, the EVGA/Superflower is 220mm long. You'll also need to account for additional space required for the modular cables to plug in.

You should also ask if you really need a 1600W power supply. Those units are very expensive, costing up to $600. If you don't need a 1600W power supply that could be money better spent elsewhere in the system. What are your build specs?

pretty sure Super flower supplies EVGA's PSU's, and not sure where Corsair gets theirs from so pretty much between Seasonic and Super flower IMO

The EVGA T2 is based on the Superflower Leadex. EVGA and Superflower ended their partnership a while ago, the T2 is one of the few power supplies they have still made by Superflower. The Corsair is designed by Corsair & Flextronics, manufactured by Flextronics.

I'm currently about to build my first custom PC, and for the power supply unit, I've narrowed my choices down to these four models

Corsair AX1600i

EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-t2-1600-x1

Seasonic Prime TX-1600

https://seasonic.com/prime-tx

Super Flower Leadex Titanium 1600W

https://www.super-flower.com.tw/product-data.php?productID=66&lang=en

Since they're all 1600W and 80+ Titanium, which brand is the most recommended?

They are all in the Tier-A https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

Since the only multi rail one is the Corsair AX, go with the corsair, multi-rail has better chance in protecting your parts if anything goes wrong.

At this time it indeed is the time to buy a PSU with 12VPHR connector.

I edit my posts more often than not

I'll be going with the Corsair AX1600i.

These are the basic components I'll be using. Right now, I currently can't decide if I should go with an AMD or Intel processor

Corsair Obsidian 1000D

Intel Core i9-13900K/AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X

MSI MEG Z790 ACE/Asus ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha

Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 64GB DDR5/DDR4

Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB

GeForce RTX 3090 ti x4

Creative Sound Blaster AE-9

Corsair AX1600i x2

This is in response to this thread

With the one mentioned here, I'll be building a second PC for video-capturing SD analog media. I already got the components for it laid out, it's just a matter of choosing the right PSU. So far, I've narrowed my choices down to these make/models

Cooler Master V550 SFX GOLD
Corsair SF450 Gold
Fractal Design Ion SFX-L 500W Gold
Seasonic SGX-500
Silverstone NJ450-SXL

Which one would be the best choice?
