Xbox controller not connecting with wireless

A person I know had a problem with their Xbox Series X/S controller in that it wouldn't connect wirelessly, or wired when connected via cable

 

PS: They use the official play and charge kit by Microsoft.

Could be a driver issue,

Does it work in a different device?
