Upgrading my CPU and Motherboard

My current setup:

I7 8700k 4.7ghz

Msi 1080ti 11gb

4000mhz g skill cl 16

Nxzt kraken x 52 water coller

250 gb m2 ssd

1Tb hdd external

650 seasonic power supply

Msi z370 gaming m5 motherboard

 

 

 

I gave up on my hope of getting 4ghz ram on this so I wanna know if upgrading my cpu to i5 12600kf and motherboard gigabyte z690m elite ax ddr4 will allow me to get 4ghz ram?

I mean, the CPU will likely be able to, but the motherboard is probably the weakest memory overclocking motherboard on LGA 1700, so getting 4000MT/s to work in Gear 1 (where you want to be for the best performance) is hit or miss. 

 

That said, we're very close to the release of AM5 and 13th gen Intel, you might as well wait for them. Getting your RAM to work at it's rated speeds isn't gonna help that much with performance, just sticking to something like 3866MHz will be more than fine for performance, that extra 133MHz isn't gonna get you that much extra performance.

Why do you want that ? And then if ever you've a good reason to, get DDR5 board and RAM 🙂

my friend told me I should rather buy msi z690 or asus z690 do you think those are any better?

Those are better boards for memory overclocking, yes, but at the same time 1) just wanting your RAM to clock faster is not a good reason to upgrade and 2) new stuff is coming out so soon anyway that you should just go for that instead.
