Hi dont know if this is the right subreddit. But!

Yashiees

So I've just brought a second monitor. Its now my main, 240hz 1080p and my first ever monitor is now my secondary monitor (144hz)

when I'm playing games like arma and i try to switch around between the monitors my main monitor (the new one) goes to 85hz and it stays at 85 and i go into the settings (windows display and also NVidia control panel) and it only shows up as 85hz and its really really slow and theres no way of putting the 240hz setting back as it doesnt show up on the list. I have to restart my pc to get my normal hz back.

Any ideas what this could be? My second monitor seems to be fine and doesnt lower itself and stays at 144hz

Might be a thing about windows really not appreciating main monitor switching. I know it does not like that at all.

Why are you doing it this way?

When im playing arma and im watching twitch on the other monitor my main one goes black and when i click back it sometimes goes dodgy and hz goes down and the main monitor goes really slow.

Im on windows 11 sadly. Would win10 have this problem?

I would try and swap the cables. This might just be a wonky cable problem.

it really doesnt seem like it. It only happens when playing games. My main monitor just goes to 85hz and it just stays at 85hz and i go into all the settings and the option of "240hz" doesnt show up. I have to restart pc to get 240hz back.

I'd give it a try that helps rule out one option.

You should also check your color space. You should be in full RGB for a standard monitor. Your screenshot shows YCbCr with a 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, which is far from ideal.

Basically, it is compressing your color space, making your monitor's colors less accurate. This, coupled with the refresh rate, could be indicative of a larger issue.

Could be any number of things: a cable issue as @jaslion mentioned, a driver conflict, defective monitor EDID, Windows simply misbehaving...
