Want to upgrade RAM not sure about compatibility

So I am using a Dell prebuilt as a storage/minecraft/plex server and I want to upgrade the RAM from 8GB to 16GB. In task manager 7.5GB is being used at medium load and I want to upgrade it.

Just wondering if this system uses regular DDR3 RAM and its not finicky on compatibility. Also, ECC memory would not work correct?

would this work?

Hi,

to properly answer your question it would be nice to know what CPU your System is running and what mainboard it is / the mainboards chipset. As that determines what specs the RAM can run at.

If it is an Intel i-series CPU then yes ECC will not work.

Are you adding another stick or swapping out 2 sticks?

That is normal ddr3, nothing uses ecc aside from servers, and ecc wont work anyways on consumer stuff except for unbuffered ecc but the ecc is basically useless on consumer platforms because no boards support it other than maybe some asus boards

Hello, there is two slots for RAM so I would need a kit of 2x8 RAM. The CPU is an i5 4590 running Windows 10.

This appears to be the motherboard: http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/dih81r/

It says what memory it supports but I don't really know what that completely means so if I could still be recommended a good kit to replace these with for a good price that would be nice.

Sell that hynix stick and buy 2 matched 8gb 1333/1600 bare pcb rams, all (consumer) 8gb ddr3 is dual sided btw

Used market should have a decent amount of these ddr3 dimms, usually <20$ a stick
