M.2 Positioning on 10th Gen Z-590 for GPU Speeds

Go to solution Solved by -rascal-,

SSD / storage should NOT affect performance, FPS wise -- if it does, it is going to be very very very very small.

It would affect load times / texture loading, level loading, etc.

Since you have a 10th Gen CPU, the top M.2_1 slot does nothing.

M2._2 shared PCI-E bandwidth with the PCI-E X16 slots, which those are supplied through the CPU.

M.2_3 and M.2_4 is through the Z590 chipset.

I would use the M.2_3 or M.2_4 slot.

I have an ASUS Maximus XIII Hero w/an i9-10900k & RTX 3080 ti and my M.2 is installed in the 2nd slot.  The manual states the second slot causes my PCIE 1 & 2 to go at 8x speed.  If I were to switch the slot to M2_3, would it make much of a difference at all in games?  I play at 1440p/240Hz (270Hz OC).

Also, if I were to move my M.2_2 to M.2_3, would it change anything w/my OS, such as install locations for queries, booting, etc?

I've already been using it, but would swappin the M.2 slot cause any issues w/file location (C: drive), boot manager, etc?

Nope, it shouldn't.

C:\ , D:\, Z:\ whatever, is within the OS.

Moving the SSD into a different slot, should not affect it.

I was askin about FPS due to the PCIE speeds goin from 16x --> 8x from the M.2 slot bein occupied
