Crimping 8P8C ruins the retention clip - what is wrong?

Filingo

Whenever I crimp the 8P8C, the clip squeezes too much to the point it's not holding the socket well and I have to bend it back with my hands. And sometimes even bending won't help because it's already bent too much.

I bought Monoprice cat6 8P8C so I guess they're good quality? Or they are?

The crimper is a cheap one from AliExpress - could that be the reason? I wonder if a quality crimp tool should successfully crimp without the amount of force I am using.

It happens even when I crimp just once. I might be applying alot of force too, but I just thought I should?

It's a bad crimping tool.

Not only for that but also because of how it's designed - it presses down on those contacts at an angle, so the contacts closer to the extremity of the tool are pressed harder and also the tool pushes on the plastic walls between the contacts (due to the angle), potentially weakening them.

Basically a good crimping tool should put equal pressure on all the pins of the connector.

One version is this : https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/klein-tools-inc/VDV226-107/6597046

same model here : https://www.amazon.com/Pass-Thru-Reliable-Klein-Tools-VDV226-110/dp/B076MGPQZQ/

Basically as you squeeze the lever, there's a rod pushed through a channel inside the handle and at the end of the rod is the metal bit with teeth that pushes all contacts equally and straight down into the connector contacts.

The designed was cloned and simplified in tools like these:

https://www.amazon.com/VCE-Ethernet-Pass-Through-Connectors-Multi-Tool/dp/B07TT5J2WJ/

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YC9TQKH/

A simpler design (without ratcheting and more basic when it comes to stripping insulation) but which still puts even pressure on all contacts is this : https://www.amazon.com/Gaobige-Crimping-Connectors-Connector-Stripper/dp/B08CT35Z1W/

nice explanation. Yep that was cheapo because at the time I needed it for like 1 job and wanted the cheapest. But when these things become hobby you gotta get better ones 😄

Edit: I bought a few stuff from this brand lately and their products have been quite good for the price. These are their crimping tools:

Which one of them would you recommend?
