Asus Zephyrus M16 wont use gpu for external monitor.

I have a ASUS Zephyrus m16 with a rtx 3070, I recently bought a external monitor (AOC 27G2) that has a refresh rate of 144hz, but no matter what I do my laptop caps it at only 120hz because it says the display is using the intel integrated graphics. I've watched all the YouTube videos about NVidia control panel settings but it still wont change the display adapter and I cant find the option in my laptops bios to use only the graphics card. Can someone help me please?

Are you connected through usb-C to DP? 

Is your laptop charged? My old laptop sometimes won't use the nvidia dGPU when not charged.

Is your laptop plugged in? I know mine won't even run the gpu if it's not plugged in as the standard battery doesn't allow for the proper power delivery to power gpus like a 3060 or 3070.

Also keep in mind that now display settings are more often than not done through windows display settings rather than nvidia control panel especially for laptops. I know my work laptop that has a nvidia quadro uses only the windows display settings and has the nvidia control panel mostly grayed out and unable to be changed there.

1st The RTX 3070 only activate when gaming and any apps use it. In Windows, it will run by the Intel GPU and this cannot be change.

2nd if you are connected via HDMI normally laptop came with HDMI and normally the HDMI version is not latest and it normally cap at 120hz or 60hz. Check the laptop manual.

Unless your laptop has a mux internally to switch its output between the integrated and dedicated GPU, you're stuck with only the intel graphics for display outputs.

This is incorrect, I have an ROG laptop too, and if I connect an external display whether with HDMI or usb-C DP, it will be connected to the dGPU. Unless not charged.

Not every laptop can use Nvidia GeForce/AMD Radeon GPU as display output. It is very rare to have this function. 

 

Majority laptop is design only can use iGPU from Intel or AMD as display output nor-matter you connect to power source or not.

Well, is his laptop in the majority of laptops? His laptop is an ROG Zephyrus, its the top of the line stuff, if my measly ROG Strix could have a mux switch, I don't see why his can't have it as well.

Also, you're generalizing a top of the line laptop with budget or average laptop that has no dGPU or low powered dGPU. Come on now.

It is connected through a hdmi port and my laptop is plugged in when I use it with the external monitor.

I have a cable that is made for 144hz, and I know my laptop can handle 144hz because my monitor back home can run at 144hz.

Is a device that allows the input to be redirected to either the integrated gpu or the dedicated one. As per the comments above, it seems like your laptop does have one, so I'm out of ideas here
