What does the switch on the side of my rx6600 do? Should I have it to the right or the left for gaming?

Usually a physical switch on a GPU is for BIOS switching of the GPU, some have quite and OC mode, some have performance and OC mode. My Asus TUF RX 6800 XT has the performance and OC mode.

Consult your manual for what it actually does.

Side note, after switching the switch, you have to restart your PC for it to take effect.

Just a shot in the dark here, but if it has OC, it could be switchable and that's how they chose to do it. Like I said, shot in the dark.

Due to the above, I've likely revised posts <30 min old, and do not think as you do.
