Do you think an android phone with 8GB of RAM is good enough?

HARDWELL9191

I'm looking at the Realme Gt Neo2. I would mostly watch videos (Netflix, HBO, YT etc.). Maybe play some clash of clans, have some banking apps and use it for social media. Would that be enough or do I have to pay a 100€ more to get the 12GB version?

Yes 8GB or even 6GB should be enough.

It is not quite like a PC....where you need 16GB or something stupid.

8 GB is more than enough for that.

Android always benefits from more RAM but not when it comes to performance. Get the 8G one.

Thank you all. I'll get the 8GB if that's enough for my apps.

Let's say like this, 8GB of Ram will not last you two years. Mark my words, your OS will eventually take up to 4-5GB 2 years later after many OS updates, and if ur like me, who likes opening apps and never close them, your phone will lag. Take this from my personal experience.

It will use as much RAM as it can to speed things up. So it will work with less, but then has to load more often from the slower flash memory.

FWIW, my Pixel 6Pro has 12 GB and on average uses close to 8GB. Since that is average, it likely peaks well above 8. Unfortunately I only see average of the last 3 hours and not peak or instant memory use.

Is it worth €100? Only you know. In case of the Pixel the upgrade to Pro also came with larger screen, battery and better camera. So check what else the upcharge gives you for the phone you look at. If it is just for 4GB of RAM, €100 would be a ripoff

Not worth. More Ram doesn't do anything for Performance, Ram is NOT there for Performance or Speed or how smooth you scroll.

It's a "bigger Desk", so you can keep more Apps open at the same Time. When you switch to an older Application, there's a higher chance, it's still in Ram for longer, ready to go. Not having to "start again".
Nothing more, nothing less.

i've had 8gb and 12gb already on Android, you won't notice a difference. 8gb is already plenty to work with, unless you have to keep 3-4 Games open at the same Time or something like that.

Android does "use" more Ram, when more Ram is there. Even OS-processes will use more.

The System also keeps a threshold "free", so it's ready for any new App, so you will NEVER see your Ram getting full. If you have 4gb Ram, it will NEVER be really full. The Ram Management closes older Apps automatically. That's why how much free Ram Phone xy has is completely irrelevant. You can't read anything out of that.

And on more than 8gb Ram, it most likely won't make use of it. My Oneplus 8 Pro never had more than 8-9gb Ram in usage, but still closed older Apps. I really did try to fill it up. The System didn't let me.
Some manufacturers have a bit more aggressive Ram Management tho in Order to "Save battery".

You don't need more than 8gb Ram. Not today, not in 3 years. Before 8gb Ram will be really not enough, your Android version will alredy be a few years old and outdated.

Especially, if you're not a "Multitasking-Freak", that gets annoyed every single Time an Application has to restart again from scratch when you open it.

If the 12gb Version comes with more Storage too, and you need that, you may get it. But you absolutely do not have to pay for more than 8gb Ram.

Like i said, and i have to emphasize is here: More Ram will NOT make your Apps run better. It only keeps more Apps open at the same Time.
