New PC Build - Under £2000

rohansh99

Budget (including currency): Under £2000

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Latest game titles, Coding, Music Production and some video and photo editing

Other details

This is my first pc build, I will be looking at peripherals but that is not included in the budget. I would like to get a 1440p monitor with a refresh rate of 120Hz or more.

The current parts I've picked are:

£110 for that cooler is way too much. You can get better performing ones for way less. AK620 for example. Might even need to go for a 360mm AIO. No idea how hot on average a 125W 12th gen Intel gets.

If you're never gonna do overclocking you can safely get a PRO B660 motherboard.

3600MHz memory is not really needed for intel. Marginal performance gain but you can afford it.

3080 for £800 is extremely overpriced. You'll get the same FPS with a 6800XT while saving yourself some £150.

4000X not the best case for airflow, especially with parts that produce as much heat as this.

Could look something like this.

Desktop: Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Kraken X62 Rev 2 - STRIX X470-I - 3600MHz 32GB Kingston Fury - 250GB 970 Evo boot - 2x 500GB 860 Evo - 1TB P3 - 4TB HDD - RX6800 - RMx 750 W 80+ Gold - Manta - Silent Wings Pro 4's enjoyer

SetupZowie XL2740 27.0" 240hz - Roccat Burt Pro Corsair K70 LUX browns - PC38X - Mackie CR5X's

I would do something like this.

The 12700F is cheaper. You just lose out on overclocking which isn't a big deal.

Much cheaper cooler. I find that Noctua is always overpriced compared to the competition.

Swapped the board for a B660 one.

The Kingston Ram is a bit cheaper as well.

Much better SSD, especially as you mention video editing.

The Phanteks P400A is £10 cheaper and you get the same amount of fans. The airflow will be better as well due to the mesh front panel.

You will be fine with 850W for the psu.

The OP build is fine.

Keep the iCUE 4000X RGB case if you like it. Airflow is not as good as mesh front cases, but is adequate for the build. An additional rear exhaust fan will improve airflow a bit and add a little more bling. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/M9Gbt6/corsair-icue-sp120-rgb-elite-477-cfm-120-mm-fan-co-9050108-ww

Unless you really need the additional 2GB of video memory, save a bit with a 10GB version. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/p3BG3C/asus-geforce-rtx-3080-lhr-10-gb-tuf-gaming-oc-v2-video-card-tuf-rtx3080-o10g-v2-gaming

I'd suggest a higher performance NVMe drive.  https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/4KRYcf/western-digital-2-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-wds200t3x0e is well priced for a drive that is competitive with the 980 Pro and SN850. It will only offer a marginal performance improvement.

An 850W PSU is sufficient for the build. A white PSU would include white power cables that may look better in the build. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/dnhKHx/corsair-rmx-2018-850-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020188-na

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
