Choosing between Thinkbook laptops with Core i5-1240P vs R7-5700U

Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase a new laptop. Will use it mostly for work (Word, Excel (heavy), PowerPoint), maybe some Data analytics (Python,v.v.) and coding for personal hobby.

I quite like the Thinkpad lineups for their keyboards, but most of the good ones are out of budget, so I am looking at the Thinkbooks instead. Specifically there are 2 models:

Thinkbook 14 G3:

CPU: AMD Ryzen ™ 7-5700U (1.80GHz up to 4.30GHz, 8MB Cache)
Ram: 8GB DDR4-3200Mhz
Storage: 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 3.0x4 NVMe SSD
VGA: AMD Radeon Graphics
Display: 14.0 inch FHD(1920x1080) IPS 250nits Anti-glare, 45% NTSC
Battery: 45Wh

Thinkbook 14 G4:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-1240P (3.30GHz up to 4.40GHz, 12MB Cache)
Ram: 16GB(2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
Storage: 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD
VGA: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
Display: 14.0 inch FHD (1920×1080) IPS 300nits, Anti-glare, 45% NTSC
Battery: 60Wh

I believe the RAM could be upgraded on both, so the main differences are CPU and Battery.
Please give me some advice on which one to choose.

Thanks

The Radeon graphics are going to have better support and drivers, and the 5700U will likely have better efficiency/performance but that 12th gen is going to have that sweet single thread performance.

I won't game on the laptop, and will mostly use Office (as I stated) and maybe some photoshop. So will having better single core performance matter?

And yeah I'd like to have better efficiency. I've heard that the 12th gen i5 run quite a bit hotter in slim laptops

I mean for the price the i5 has the flat out better specs and the bigger batterybwill make up for its lower efficiency
