HDR video files look BETTER with hdr OFF in Windows 11

The Torrent

As the title says, i have tried using VLC, now i have tried using also MPCHC with MadVR.

its like black and white and dark when i turn HDR on, with HDR turned OFF it looks alright tbh - but considering its HDR video of course im assuming that its not right

What on earth is going on?

HDR video on Youtube works absolutely fine. Just cant play local files (they are deffo hdr).

Windows 11 Laptop. AMD Ryzen 6900HX.

That means you don't have driver 22.7.1, which is good since that has a bugged HDR. 22.7.1 has WDDM 3.1 so starts with 31, and also has a shortcut when you right click the desktop.

My guess would be that they used a cheap screen with fake HDR...

i doubt in a 3 grand laptop. it has local dimming so no reason i can see for it not to have hdr. all measurements also come through with hdr colour space correct by reviewers. HDR in youtube also works perfectly, just wont work locally.

Idk then, only thing I can think about is something wrong with the files...
