How to backup my files to a friend's pc?

farzher

i simply want to backup some files to a friend's pc. and also allow them to backup to my pc.
seems like a good way to get offsite backups.

i've failed at google searching so now i'm here.

has to be free. and ideally open source.
files should be encrypted.

Syncthing maybe? I don't know if it has any encryption at rest functionality tho, been years since I used it.

i found many syncing solutions. syncs aren't backups. if you get ransomeware it'll overwrite your backup with encrypted files

Ah, you mean true backups...

I am not sure what solutions there are that fit your use case. Hopefully someone else will have an option for you.

Are the machines in close proximity to each other? And specifically how do you mean backups? Simply copying from one machine's drive to another, or the old MS-DOS style backups to .BAK files?

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

Due to the above, I've likely revised posts <30 min old, and do not think as you do.

no it would be online ip backups. basically copying, but with version history and encryption so my friend can't read the files. i don't really care what the format is.

duplicati makes really good backups. that's what i'm currently using. if i could just get that to target/upload to my friend's pc that'd be perfect
