That's pretty slick for consumer gear!

 

I'd love to see a not-sponsored shootout between this and a broadcast-quality wireless system like you can get from Teradek. (Never mind multi-hundred-thousand-dollar commercial point-to-point microwave systems from the likes of Vislink. Sadly I don't think there's going to be an LMG Chopper any time soon...)

I work in professional TV/Film production and I have a lot of experience with wireless video systems like this (meant for ultra low latency monitoring and camera operation). I’d love to see maybe a lab/LTT combo where they compared this to other solutions. I saw someone already mention Teradek and they’re the industry standard but I have to say there’s a lot of interest in competition. I recently started using a system from Hollyland which I’m using side by side with Teradek systems and the signal strength and latency are not noticeably different. The Teradek system is something like $80k and the Hollyland is approx $1k. I think there’s a couple of others out there as well. With that built in monitor though and a “real” company (Hollyland doesn’t have any actual support I could find other than a Facebook group that is not responded to by the company)  the DJI kit is not badly priced at all, especially if they are using their own silicon. 
 

I would be interested in what the availability of a transmitter and receiver combo would cost if there’s a receiver that’s not also a monitor/camera control. It’d make sense if you wanted to throw it on the professional monitor you have already. They also either didn’t mention or I may have missed anything about battery life and if you could have one transmitter and X receivers. To go back to the Teradek comparison, depending on the actual product you can use 1 TX for like at least 3 RX I believe. 
 

I loved that even in a sponsored video LTT went through constantly explaining that the stated distance all of these devices state is actual straight and unobstructed line of sight without any other signals. You would have to be on a deserted beach with even your cell on airplane mode for those results as shown. In an office or city or set environment things get tough. So it was great seeing it in that LTT environment with similar signal issues that any other production might have.

Most of the pro gear you can get but isnt pretty price wise.

Was about to make a forum account to post here, but apparently I already have one. Yay for my first post.

Sponsored videos for various wireless video solutions have really become a pet peeve of mine. Though LTT's is the best one I've seen to date they still hit all the sponsor points of this being "cheaper than the competition!", having a a "really low delay" and "check out that range!" without actually mentioning what the competition can do, and WHY they have to do it.

The short answer is that Teradek uses it's own patented wireless chips to transfer video, and everyone else who doesn't license from Teradek uses Wi-Fi.

Linus mentioned the delay of 80-100ms (While you're right next to the transmitter), and while that might sound good for a layperson, that is actually borderline unusable for head operators and focus pullers. You can only anticipate a move only so far in advance and adding an extra 100ms makes it impossible. Shooting at 25 fps with a 80-100ms delay is a delay of 2-3 frames. That's a lot!

For comparison, a Teradek compared to this can actually be called "0 Delay", since it's delay is <1ms (Compare that to 80-100!) at any range. Funnily enough, the new Teradek 4Ks have a function built in to add more delay, since some monitors and recorders freak out if the signal flickers too fast. The added delay adds "padding" and makes the video signal continuous. And believe me, focus pullers will notice that setting being turned on and they will complain.

The 1ms delay is also why Teradeks might seem less reliable to some compared to a Hollyland, a DJI or any other similar brand. Doing that is REALLY hard and antenna positioning and frequency selection is absolutely crucial to ensure that a shoot will go well. Throwing anything in an "auto" mode and putting it on a c-stand behind a glass door is a sure way of making sure that it'll mess up sooner or later. Here's a tip to Teradek users, select lower frequencies indoors, since those travel a little better through obstacles.

In addition to the 1ms delay the latest Teradek 4Ks (The cheapest 750 HDMI Tx/Rx kit retails for $1990, DJI Transmission is $2500) support 4:2:2 HDR 4K/1080p60 and up to 6 receivers. You will have a limited ranged of exactly 750 feet (software locked), but you will get the stuff that matters more.

Teradeks are expensive for a reason. (And because they invented the technology and own a monopoly)

They really should cover this with the Lab.

the better way to test it would be to have the antennae at a 45 degree angle so if the transmitter is movin around there wont be as much signal loss as theres a 3db loss between vertical and horizontal polarization but if the antennae need to be mounted on a car usin coax ya want 24cm spacing between the antennae but also on a mag mount
