regular ssd vs m.2 pcie ssd for OS

JimmyHackers

setup is, asus z390 plus mobo, 8700k, 1080ti, seagate baracuda 120 ssd (500gb), western digital black sn750 (500gb), 2tb hdd

my OS is on the ssd. and im currently using the m.2 for a few games that need it (dayz, fallout 4)

just wondering if id notice any difference putting the OS on the m.2? (what would the differences be?)

Note: i have a spare m.2 pcie slot and am thinking of getting a 2tb stick and not using the ssd and hdd anymore (cleaner build)

have crystaldisc tested both (results in pic)

You would most likely not notice any difference putting the OS on the M.2

The OS loads a bunch of small files when it starts and then caches most of the stuff it uses in RAM, so once the files are read once they're less often read from the storage drive.

Small files are read just as fast on both a SATA drive and M.2 drives ... you get high transfer speeds with big size files.

Random IO (read multiple files at same time, mix read with writes) is about the same as you can see in the benchmark at the bottom.
