What should a network engineer know? As in, what tools should they be familiar with and what knowledge should they have?

Hello, everyone. I was hoping if you kind people could tell me what kind of stuff a network engineer should be familiar with. As in, what tools, software, etc., they should know how to use on the job.

Too broad question.

My advice would be to start a bit slower and become a network techicial first, if that's what you are interested in.

Learning the basics like how TCP works, routing and basically the stuff covered in the CCNA is a good foundation.

If you are a network engineer already then you should already be familiar with what you need for your particular job.

First thing to do is take the term 'network engineer' with a grain of salt. This is typically a titles tossed around by MSPs and Cisco training culture to embellish their self worth and impress clients.

What do you have against Cisco? Did they steal some of your packets? Denied access with their VLANs and ACLs?

This guy has an agenda against Cisco.... They probably added him to their deny access list. 🤣
