Ever since i got my new graphics card i can't change my refresh rate to 144hz on any of my monitors

I'd just bought the Rtx 3070ti upgraded from the gtx 1060 3gb and now I cant change the refresh rate on either of my 144hz monitors, thought I might have an outdated HDMI cable so I bought a new one as well as a Display port cable but nothing seems to change. My drivers for the card are up to date and I'm at a total loss someone please help me find a fix.

What monitor do you have? Do you have a 144hz monitor, or what kind of monitor do you have? Brand? Model name?

HDMI will only go up to 120hz in most cases. Displayport goes higher. You can't do like displayport to hdmi on an old monitor, and expect 144hz though.

Have you tried loading the inf for the monitor you have beyond using the generic pnp configuration windows provided?  Usually you can find the one tailored for your monitor from the manufacturer website, that way windows knows exactly what modes.your monitor supports.

You have to go into the NVIDIA Control Panel and change your refresh rate on the left side of the screen under Change Resolution, then select your monitor and change your refresh rate to 144Hz, after that is done, you should be able to change it on the Windows Display Settings page. That worked for my RTX 3060 at least.

you may need to DDU all the drivers and do a fresh install.

Instructions are a bit tricky, but there are plenty of YT tutorials.

You could still mention the model name? (If I had to take a bet, I'd say it's a BenQ). There are some older monitors that can (only) do 144 Hz through DVI, but not HDMI.

Windows currently shows your monitor as "Generic PnP Monitor", which means it isn't recognized. That's probably why you can't select 144 Hz (i.e. Windows doesn't know the monitor supports it). You can try these steps: https://www.makeuseof.com/ways-fix-generic-pnp-monitor-driver-error-windows-10/

Try re-install your Nvidia GPU driver, you can get the driver from https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Or install Nvidia GeForce Experience and let this apps auto search and install the correct driver for you -  https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

I had check your monitor - LG 27GL83A-B and your GPU 3070Ti where both is capable.

Make sure you are using the latest HDMI 2.1 (HDMI 2.0 minimum) or DP 1.4 cable. Buying new if wrong version also no point. The monitor should came with the cable and those cable is compatible.

This monitor release in year 2021 and it only came with DP and HDMI. You should direct connect to the DP using DP cable. (If you have previously connect with converter to DVI, throw away that converter as you no longer need it).

Monitor detect as Generic is ok as all default is Generic PnP Monitor unless you install the specific monitor driver. I check this model and LG did not provide any Monitor driver (very common to LG).

After install the Nvidia driver, check your NVIDIA Control Panel to see can change refresh rate or not.

So I apologize, I ordered this monitor but when it came in it was broken, sent it back and got the same monitor but Samsung.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FF3F5HR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My other Monitor is GN246HL an acer. and yes both are appearing as "Generic PnP Monitor" before I got the new card my other monitor had its name rather than Generic PnP Monitor so if it is the cable then ill find out soon as I've just ordered both of the cables you've sent and I may have had an outdated DP cable.

I installed the Nvidia driver and restarted my PC and still nothing.

Though im not sure if it works, the customize option in NVIDIA Control Panel allowed me to set it to whatever i want, it's telling me it's at 144hz when i make it custom.

If it says it is it solved?

As for the link you sent I tried all 5 things other than the cable and nothing has changed unfortunately.

The GN246HL only supports 144 Hz on the DVI port. The HDMI input is limited to 60 Hz. If you don't have a DVI output on your new graphics card then you need a dual-link DVI active adapter (not a normal adapter). So original you bought LG 27GL83A-B but it is broken and now you get the SAMSUNG Odyssey G5. Both is different monitor, why you said same?

- Different brand (LG v/s Samsung)

- Different panel (IPS v/s VA)

It is totally different monitor.

For Samsung Odyssey G5, try DP if HDMI give you issue on higher refresh rate.
