The first gaming pc for my sister

Ax_

Hello guys,

My sister want to build her first gaming PC, the only things she wanted is: "I want an nzxt h510 élite with dope LED" and "I don't want to change anything until the next 5 years"

What do you think about the component i choosed ? Is it gonna be enough to run most games at 100-120fps ?

Budget (including currency): 1500chf (without monitor)

Country: Switzerland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Sims 4, Borderlands, Destiny 2, Genshin Impact, Monster Hunter

I would swap out the Corsair memory for something from G.Skill given reported compatibility problems on Ryzen as well as issues with version compatibility amongst the same corsair model should you need to increase that later.

I see some problems here. I air-cool a 5900X with a mere 34 sq in of intake area using six 120mm fans and a Scythe Mugen 5. For reference, 38C-42C idle, 57C-65C moderately loaded, and 70C-72C under heavier use. Cinebench R23 has peaked at 87C with PBO, 76C without. I run an RTX3060ti, lightly OC'd.

The 5800X is going to generate some heat, and while that case seems to have about the same intake area as my Corsair 4000X, I'm not sure you'll have enough heat exiting. I really think you need more fans, which this case doesn't make much allowance for. I have three front, two up top, and one rear.  Also consider that the right-angle the Kraken forces the intake air to take in this case may well hinder optimum airflow as well. I'm not even sure how the glass side actually takes in air, it appears that the metal side is the only functional intake. Heat can kill components quick, not to mention cause needless throttling and lackluster performance.

As previously stated by another user, Corsair RAM is experiencing some issues as of late, particularly with Ryzen processors, and I would recommend Crucial Ballistix -- I have 2x16 CL16 DDR4-3200 in both a 1700 and a 5900X with no issue. You also might consider 32GB -- Ryzens seem to like having more RAM to play with.

Samsung M.2s are fast, but beyond 3,000-3,500 Mbps, you really don't notice much of a difference unless what you're doing is storage read / write intensive. Most of the faster PCIe3/4 drives also run hotter, exacerbating your potential heat issue. I've found that the best bang for the buck is the WD Blue SN570, though the Black SN750 / 770 / 850 have come down in price recently.

How about something like this. Its in German prizes so I dont know how different the Suisse prices are, but the exchange rate CHF to EUR is pretty much 1:1 atm

I have gone for a bit cheaper CPU/motherboard combo but that still has good gaming performance in exchange for a better GPU, you can also find 3070 in the same price range if you prefer Nvidia.

For CPU you can alternatively get a R5 5600X with a cheaper B550 motherboard. You dont really need a X570 motherboard for your use case even with the 5800X.

NZXT cases are horrible as per norm, you should be looking at somewhere else. Even if she insists on wanting it, at least buy the one with the mesh front. It's still overpriced but at the very least, it doesn't overheat as much. NZXT AIOs are also equally as bad. I can vouch for the 4000X - forget about the P2 SSD though.

RGB + White build might be even prettier but could be a bit more pricy or have lower specs. Still perfectly fine for the game she wants to play so...

Thank you guys!

So the mains points are:

  • Intel is cheaper for almost the same result for this kind of setup
  • Corsair 4000x >>>>>>>> NZXT H510
  • P2 SSD: not necessary

Gonna swap this stuff

One other thing, if your sis is stuck on the look of this particular case, check out the NZXT H510 Flow.  It has a much more open front for better airflow, and is nearly the same case. Should cool the 5800X much better. You might also consider the NZXT H7 Flow White.

The 4000X, available in white, is good also, I have one myself and it keeps my 12-core 24-thread 5900X happy, to the disbelief of some here, as it does have somewhat limited airflow. But I believe the non-flow H510 has about half that, which is a concern. Now it's not that the 4000X can't cool the 5800X, but my 5900X peaks at 87C under max load with PBO in the 4000X. A 4000D Airflow could probably drop temps by perhaps 25C.

If the 5800X is a "would rather have", then you can certainly run one on a B550 board, I have a 5900X on a B550 board currently -- the Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS. The PRO, for a little bit more, has a USB 3.2 front panel header if needed, and the 4000X certainly needs that -- a "coulda-woulda-shoulda" I didn't catch when ordering my parts.

That said, this is how I would do this in trying to keep with your sis' wishes without building an incinerator.

Ryzen R7 5800X

Asus Tuf Gaming B550 PRO board

Corsair liquid cooling / 360 mm front / 240mm top in white

32GB (2x16) DDR4-3200 Crucial Ballistix CL16 in white

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Vision OC (rev 2.0) LHR GPU in white

500GB Western Digital Blue SN570 M.2

4TB Western Digital Black HDD

Corsair 4000D Airflow case in white

Corsair SP120 fans (x3, x1) in white

Corsair CXM750 RGB PSU in white

Windows 10 Home Bootable USB

Total : $1,951.51

I maintained the white theme where I could, but there are no white B550 boards that I can find. If your sis is stuck on the look of the NZXT case, the H510 Flow / Elite could be swapped in place of the 4000D to improve airlfow over the standard H510, but keep in mind either Corsair comes with its own base RGB control and three 120 fans included, meaning you need only add three more 120s (integrated into the list for max cooling).

Corsair's iCUE software works with the base controller, but the base controller does not have PWM control, which if you want, you'll want the Commander Core XT, which works quite well for about $50 from Amazon.

Do with this what you will, but this is a slightly scaled back version of my build, just in white, and mine SCREAMS. Only difference is I have a 5900X, an Asus KO RTX3060ti OC, and a Corsair RM850x in the 4000X case. Negligible differences that might make ever so slight a difference in performance. But also keep in mind my build cost $2500 in March, and it costs around $2200 now.

Woa thank you so much! This is really helpfull

I see her tonight to order her PC. I'm not really sure if the white style is really important. We'll see.

I'll come back here to show you the final choice 😄

Thanks you again !!!

Hey guys! Thank you so much for your advices. We build it yesterday, here is the result. It's a little bit loudy by default, but I customed some curves in ICUE and it sounds a bit better.

Beautiful but check if the bottom x16 pcie is not gen 3 running through the B550 chipset. Pretty sure it should be top PCIEX16_1 slot with the silver shroud to not loose fps.
