Help with a case for air cooled build

BGR

Budget (including currency): £1600

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mainly games

Other details

I think I have my basic build nailed down, but I am probably now overthinking the case options.

I am building an air cooling system with a focus on keeping everything cool whilst keeping the noise down.  I have budget, especially for the Lian li and Corsair options, to add case fans.  However, I am struggling to make an decision between the below.

Fractal Design Torrent Compact - worried about the PSU being at the top of the case and the most expensive.

Lian Li Lancool II mesh - no dust filters.  I believe you can get demciflex filters though.

Fractal Design Meshify 2 - middle ground

Corsair 4000D Airflow - cheapest, but would need to add fans to give similar thermals

Is there a compelling case, excuse the pun, to pick 1 over the other?

I have a 4000X (less intake area than the 4000D) and can attest that I am air-cooling a 5900X on PBO with six 120s at 30-80%, only kicking 70+% over 70C. Idles 38-43C, moderate loads 57-65C, with most of my heavy use peaking around 70-72C. Cinebench R23 peaks at 87C with PBO on, 76C with it off. The 4000D will surely run 25-35C cooler than that, I would think. But with a 65W chip, I think you'll run even cooler.

A couple thoughts on your parts list... Ryzens are fussy about RAM, and there seem to be a lot of posts about unexplained crashes with Ryzens running Corsair RAM lately. I have Crucial Ballisitix in both my Ryzens (1700 and 5900X) with no such issues.

Check out be quiet! Pure Base 500DX. Cheaper and should do a job just as good. Might only come with 2 fans not sure.

I did have that, but then the "shortlist" would be 1 longer!

I will switch out the ram then.

One other thing -- you might look at the WD Blue SN570, great bang for the buck. Compare the specs to see if they pencil out to better for your needs, of course. But they make a nice balance between speed and reliability in my experience. Forgot to put that in earlier.

Just to give you another option.

The R5 5600 is better value if going with AMD.

The cpu cooler is a bit overkill, but the Fuma 2 is a very quiet cooler.

B550-A PRO is cheaper if you just want a no frills board.

Swapped the ram to a 2 x 16GB kit.

Cheaper SSD which is more than enough for a gaming pc. The SN550 used to be the value SSD and the SN570 is the replacement.

Swapped the case to the Corsair 4000D Airflow and added 3 x 120 Arctic fans for the front. The pre-installed fan can move to the roof.

The psu and peripherals are the same.

Works out £100+ cheaper as well.

The 4000D Airflow should replace the 4000D on that list. It has excellent airflow with stock fans.

I would have included the 500DX in place of the Lancool II Mesh as it has a stock USB-C front panel port.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
