SATA expansion cards.

Go to solution Solved by MrMase,

Id look at Startech 4 Port SATA 6Gbps PCIe Controller Card (4P6G-PCIE-SATA-CARD), typically Startech's products in my experience just work.

I want to buy a SATA expansion card, any recommendations?

(6gb/s)

For a NAS application, especially ZFS, get a real HBA.

You can get Dell h310’s on eBay, pre-flashed to IT mode with sas to sata cables for 50 bucks. They are enterprise grade, and they work properly without any issue or alteration to the bare metal access of the drives:

What exactly is your NAS? OS. Total number of drives? Etc

Get a proper HBA, like what I linked.

Also, do you actually need SSD cache? What’s the use case of the NAS? A harddrive array can easily saturate gigabit LAN.
