Stumped on Ethernet Issues with new build *NEWB Alert*

Did you try rebooting the modem/router? Seems the problem is with it not giving an address rather than the PC.

Hello All,

To get this out at the forefront: this is the first desktop that I have built in around 10 years...so to say I'm rusty would be an understatment, however, everything (sans ethernet) is working great.

I have a Gigabyte Aorus X570 Elite w/ Wifi motherboard paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. The onboard wifi is working great, however I cannot, for the life of me, get the onboard ethernet to work. I have tried everything that I know and all that I could find on the interwebs to no avail (and yes, the LAN adapter is enable in the BIOS). I created a help ticket on the Gigabyte website and (after returning from vacation) found their answer: "Send it back". However, while on vacation I ordered a USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter.

I am now thinking that the issue is not physical as, to my amazement, the USB ethernet adapter will not connect to the internet either. I have tried various cables, and bypassed my ethernet switch and plugged directly into the modem. Nada. The lights on everything blink as they should (per the directions), windows says the adapter is working fine (as it did the onboard ethernet port) but it will not connect to the internet. The windows help diagnostic "tool" says that neither adapter has a valid IP.

I'm stumped; at least I have wifi for the time being!

Thanks for reading my rambling message and I hope someone has an idea.

Well, I tried everything I could think of; BIOS updates, drivers, heck, I almost wiped windows...seems like it's often the simple things.

Not only did this fix the issue for the USB ethernet adapter...it also fixed the issue with the onboard ethernet port. Thanks!!
