Going to build my first new rig in 9 years. Need some advice on a CPU/Motherboard combo

I'm thinking that I want Intel 12th gen. Probably the 12600k. Do you think that's a solid CPU for gaming?

As the title states, I haven't upgraded the core components of my PC in almost a decade. I'm currently running an FX-8350. A 12th gen Intel i-5 really appeals to me, but I'd like to ask the LTT hive mind what they think.

A 12400/F and B660 board is usually the best price/performance.

Example:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($169.95 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI MAG B660M BAZOOKA DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $309.94
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I felt you bro, I just decommissioned my 9 years old AM3+ FX6300 and now just upgraded. My upgrade is 5600x, but i kept my CM 690II case.

I've been wanting to stay with AMD since Ryzen seems really exciting, but 12th gen Intel looks like it's reeeeaaaally good. Hopefully either way I'd get another 9ish years out of it!
