Dont have a 8pin cpu cable. Is it ok to use an 6 - 8pin adapter?

For some context, I would like to build a new server. The specs are 1600, b350 mortar board, 8gb of ram, 120gb ssd, Evga geforce 8400 512Mb, and the problem this antec smartpower 350 watt supply. It has a 24pin cable, and a 6 pin cable, I was wondering if its ok to use a 6 - 8pin converter or would it be a really bad move?

The cpu 8 pin and gpu 8 pin connectors, so that adapter won't work and may cause damage. Your best option is probably a dual 4 pin to 8pin and a molex to 4 pin.

Also many boards will work with just a 4 pin inserted, id try that first.

Don't.

And those SmartPower PSUs weren't very good to begin with.

Since the server isn't pulling more than 85 watts. So I thought that really any supply would work

Using junk is never a good idea, even when you only pulls 20w out of it.
