Where should I plug in my WiFi Extender?

lerodemmy

As you can see in the photos, I have two outlets near my PS5 and I’m trying to determine which would be best to plug in a TP-Link WiFi Range Extender.

In the first photo, the outlet is about 3-4 feet in front of the PS5, and maybe a foot lower than it.

In the second photo, the outlet is a little bit higher than the PS5 and about a foot behind it.  It is, however, on the other side of a wall.

These locations are about 15-20 feet from the router.

Both locations should result in equal performance. My current WiFi extender is also about 15 feet away from my router and its working just fine 🙂

It is also beneath my desk and is about a foot away from my rig and about 5 feet away from the work laptop. No issues on connectivity from both devices.

Why do you need a WiFi extender at such close range? It's not going to do much better than the console's built-in antenna, and extenders always add latency and cut your speed (unless their backhaul to the main router is wired or has a dedicated wireless channel).

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I agree that both outlets should work fine, but do you need a Wi-Fi extender 20 feet from your router? If there's poor reception at your PS5, you might want to check for interference in your apartment. We had an old microwave interfering with the Wi-Fi signal, and a repeater didn't help us

Dude, that desk is awesome.  Kinda neo-victorian.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...
