Why does my iPhone not show the charging symbol even if it charges?

I recently changed the battery of my iPhone 7, but the iPhone does not show the charging icon when I plug it in. I am sure it's charging. Also, the battery stays "low" on the icon, but it isn't always. Thanks for your help!
