Is that new? Last I know there is no GUI on the machine itself, you reach that nice control panel by connecting to it from a web browser on another machine.

Hey everyone, like many of you I'm a big fan of storing chunks of data, and seeing as my set of internal 4 TB hard drives is getting full, I wanted to build a NAS so I could store all my files on there. However I also want to have a computer in the kitchen with its only purpose being web stuff, so we could look up recipes, compile shopping lists, or simply watch online TV while cooking. Aside from Windows (because I'm not planning on using that anytime soon) does anybody know a NAS operating system with a built in webbrowser? If possible I also want to do Plex stuff with it.

Best is probably to use a standard linux distro and install the services you want on it. Dedicated NAS distros typically don't even have a graphical environment and are meant to be managed remotely only.

I'll be sure to check it out. Guess I forgot that Linux was a thing... 😅 Much appreciated, both of you!

Oh, right - I misread OP, I thought they wanted something that could be managed through a browser.

You could run a desktop Linux distro as a guest VM inside TrueNAS (and pass a basic GPU and USB controller through to it), but I'd recommend getting a used business laptop or something like that to use as your kitchen machine instead.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
