the 4080 is rumored to be 350w can my power supply run it?

the 4080 is rumored to be 350 watts, same as the 3090. can my evga 750 g5 run it or will i have to reduce the power limit on it?

Might wanna wait for the card to be released first. We dont know the power characteristics of the cards, they might have transient spike issues like RTX3xxx series cards.

3090 has recommended spec of 850W for a good reason, in case of 4080 I doubt that 750W would do well, in large part due to how Nvidia designs their GPUs, with little control over peak/short term load.

But we shall see how it turns out.

actually the 3090 recommends 750, its the 3090 ti that recommends 850.

750. My little SFX 750W has powered my 3090 @ 400W for almost a year and a half.

Which will become the norm sooner than later from Intel and AMD as PCI-SIG and Intel are "solving it" with the new PCI-E Gen 5 spec.

Whether or not your PSU will be able to run it will probably not influenced by any limit or undervolt you do on the 4080. It's not a question of size, it's a question of Round 3 Transient spike issues. heck there's a chance no G5 unit regardless of wattage will handle it.

 

Just have to wait and see, and it's best to not buy any PSU whatsoever, until the 4080 actually launches. (Of course if you don't mind selling all your units used, than it's fine either way).

You are both technically correct (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/compare/?section=compare-specs), what model did you use and did you undervolt etc?

Ha, I know i'm correct, i've had this card since launch. That's what Nvidia's site has said since day 1. Its an FE model limited to 350W stock but I have the power limit removed and it sits at 400W constant under a gaming load @ 3840x1600. Not currently undervolted as I'm lazy. Says perfectly cool and maintains 1950Mhz boost.

Not bad, I tend to get ~300W out of my 6900XT under normal loads.

i hope the 4080 will work with what i have right now. idk that much about transient spikes, ill look into it more. is my 750 g5 bad at handling it?

Nobody but Jensen knows xD, best just keep it regardless and try it out on the 4080, and wait until Aris (Techpowerup, Tomshardware, HardwareBustersInternational), GamersNexus reviews, general videos when it launches.

if i had to guess you'd have to undervolt it or at the very least not oc it...the spikes are rumored to be worse than ampere.

it will probably work, with the founders edition.  but if you get the EVGA power limit modded 550w because why not merica version (tm) things might look less rosey...
